Frequently Asked Questions

Are there flexible finance options available to pay in instalments?

We do require a Deposit to secure bookings but Yes, we offer flexible payment options and are happy to discuss instalments to help spread the cost. Just let us know what works best for your family.

Why did Nikki start Helping Hemi Hands?

Helping Hemi Hands was created because so many families were being told to “wait and see”—and were missing the opportunity for early, targeted support. We wanted to offer something better: specialist, evidence-based therapy that empowers both children and parents, delivered with heart, experience, and play at the centre.

We have had a negative experience with child therapy, what makes Helping Hemi Hands different?

We hear this often. Helping Hemi Hands was created specifically for children with hemiplegia, and everything we do is tailored to that. We offer specialist therapy in a fun, child-led environment, and we support you—the parent—every step of the way. Many families tell us they finally feel understood, informed, and empowered to support their child after working with us.

What is CIMT and how does it help my child?

CIMT (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy) is a research-backed therapy that involves gently casting your child’s stronger arm to encourage use of their hemiplegic (weaker) arm. Therapy is delivered through fun, repetitive activities designed to build strength, confidence, and functional movement.

What support do parents get?

Parents are central to everything we do. During your child’s therapy, we explain techniques, answer questions, and support you in becoming confident with therapy at home. You’ll also receive a Transfer Package with ideas and tools to keep things going after the intensive ends.

How much medical history do you need before an assessment?

We like to keep it simple for you. A brief summary of your child’s diagnosis (if there is one), previous therapy, and current challenges is a great starting point. If we feel we need more detail, we’ll suggest a Zoom call before any in-person assessment to make sure we’re on the same page.

Who do you work with?

We work with children of all ages who have a diagnosis—or suspected diagnosis—of hemiplegic cerebral palsy or similar neurological conditions. We also offer very early intervention, even before a formal diagnosis has been made, as early therapy can have a big impact.

What is the difference between CIMT and Bi-Manual Therapy?

CIMT helps improve the function of one arm by encouraging repeated use during everyday tasks.

Bimanual Therapy helps children use both hands together for coordinated activities like dressing, playing, and eating. In our programs, we often combine both approaches to give children a well-rounded set of skills for daily life.

What is an intensive therapy program and what does it involve?

Our intensives run over 3 or 4 weeks with daily sessions (5 days per week). Each program will have a combination of CIMT and Bimanual Therapy, delivered through playful, goal-driven activities. We tailor the program to your child’s needs and preferences, and you’ll learn alongside your child so you can continue therapy confidently at home.

How do I book and how soon can you assess my child?

Get in touch via our contact form or email to arrange a friendly chat. If we agree therapy sounds like a good fit, we’ll arrange an initial assessment and discuss possible dates. We do get busy, especially during school holidays, so it’s best to enquire early.

We need to travel for our intensive, what do we do for accommodation?

Many of our families travel from across the UK. Once your clinic location is confirmed (Stockport, Heywood, or Wirral), we’ll share some nearby accommodation options. We’re always happy to help you find somewhere comfortable and family-friendly whether it be an air bnb or a local hotel..
